Default new to assassin looking for some advice.

been used to playing the black sheep type of character in most games and i finally decided to buy factions when nightfall came out. been reading the forums and am unsure of what type of build to start running with. mostly for pvp because i have friends what will rush me through to 20. what i am looking for is (if its at all possible) a high dmg sin that has the shadow jumps and what not *teleporting around kind of* any suggestions will be much appreciated. flame if you want, not too affected by it, just looking for some advice.

Sorry, can't really help you in the PvP aspect, as I don't PvP.

However, as for possible builds to do good damage and teleportation...

Unsuspecting Strike
Wild Strike
Twisted Fangs
Moebius Strike (e) or Nine Tail Strike
Death's Charge or AoD (e)
Way Of The Fox
Shadow Refuge
Rez Signet

Death's Charge can get you in. AoD can get you in and out (but that means you can't use Moebius Strike)

Hope this helps.

Well, aside from builds, the like of which there are plenty, there are a few important lessons to learn that should really be experienced rather than just mentioned.

Firstly, you should be aware of extension range, so that you know when you've over-extended yourself from healing, and to be more careful at this time. This is especially true with shadow-stepping.
Secondly, you need to keep an eye on health levels, how fast they are dropping, and from what. Losing health fast from empathy + spoil victor should mean you stop attacking at once, whilst losing the same health at the same speed from other sources isn't quite so drastic.
Thirdly, you need to know how quickly your combo recharges fully - in other words, the time in between finishing a combo, and being able to start a full combo again.
Fourthly, you need to watch your target's actions, and make sure they don't flick on, say, riposte, a moment before you try a long recharge attack skill.
Finally, you need to know what states your build uses, whether it's knock-down, poison, crippled, or whatever, and thier benefits and flaws.

You will certainly need to bring along a snare in PvP, the most common choice of which is Siphon Speed, although Dark/Shadow Prison, and any skill that causes Crippled can also work.
Shadowstepping can be very useful because it allows you to reach your target before they can see you coming, limiting pre-kite and application of stances/enchants/conditions to limit your attack power before it starts.

As for builds, a good starter build is the "Yansassin" (search for it - I can't remember the link). It's pretty flexible, and has a good balance of offense and defence, although in time you will want to put together your own.

In general, the assassin is much more about play than build, even more so than any other class I've tried. Practice, and don't feel dispondant if you don't do amazing first time off.

You misspelled Yanssassin. I made the build btw, videos are here: www.putfile.com/yanman and the build thread here: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s....php?t=3072446 . I'm also planning on creating a new topic, with the new skill tags and newly buffed skills, and offcourse, a new, better video( tips only video editing software gladly appreciated, windows movie maker is easy, but crashes alot lately ).

The problem with the Yanssassin build right now, is that it's ridiculously overpowered, with one of the most damagaging combo's in the game. What 9th Requiem says about a good balance, is not true: I have 0 self defense. If you want to survive in RA, you should either: Use another build, or be an advanced user. My tactic is to kill them before they kill me. Not every new guy can pick out the targets with the best chance to kill, and the most lethal to yourself. Example: Mesmers will use distortion. Always believe that. If you see a N/Mo, go ahead and kill it, it will probably be a blood necro. N/Me will probably hex you with anti-melee hexes, so you better interrupt him as well. You will learn such things simply by playing.

Go ahead and try the Yanssassin build, if you need tips: pm II Yanman II

About PvE characters in PvP: Only use'm if you are 100% certain you cannot improve anything by creating a PvP character. PvP sins have 1 disadvantage: no slashing damage daggers. They only have piercing damage, and that gets owned pretty easily by Shields Up!, a shout that gives 50 AL vs piercing AoE. You will not see the shout very often, but if you play high level PvP ( GvG ), it's something to think about.
But, you might as well just craft slashing daggers ( or get a green, Everthorn's Chakrams are one of the best dagger pairs in the game ) and customize them to your PvP character(with proper upgrades offcourse ). Since the new update, you can just keep the PvP character, and change him in-game. Only works if you have enough slots for other characters too.

Also, the Yanssassin doesn't use teleporting. That's why most people oppose it: no healing, no shadowsteps, no defense. But one helluva damage output.
